This site is well located in easy cycling distance of Freiburg town centre which is a great place to visit. However whatever you do don't arrive at the site during "Quiet Time" (1200-1500?). We arrived at about 1202 and were told to just wait in the entrance for 3 hours. The owner did fortunately come and show us to a pitch shortly afterwards though.
The pitches are quite small and sloping - you will need to stack a couple of blocks under the wheels at one end of your motorhome.
I was then severely told off for putting water into the van during Quiet Time! However providing you observe Quiet Time it's apparently then ok to party most of the night and leave the toilets in an unspeakable state, as did a large group of German motorhomers who were using the site. It wasn't cleaned up.
Won't return here I'm afraid.
What a shame, this could be a very good site. Instead it was a terrible experience, with maximising income for the company placed far ahead of maximising enjoyment for the visitors! The pitches were crammed so close together as to make it very unpleasant. There were a few good pitches (though still close together), used for large outfits, but for us and others with a small motorhome, we were put in odd tiny spaces. Ours was no more than 20 sq. metres (our van occupied 12 sq metres of this!), with no room to sit out or extend our awning. Had we not had a very tiring journey (road works everywhere!) we would not have stayed at all. As it was, we put up with it for 2 nights in order to see Freiburg which is an attractive city, though mostly rebuilt after the war. The site experience was probably the worst in over 40 years of camping and we recommend staying elsewhere and travelling into Freiburg if you wish to see the city.
The site has restraints due to the size and location. The pitches are quite small and at peak periods are packed in. However the site is well positioned for walking into the town three very different routes, through the wood (Panorama Walk), along the road and along te river where herons may be seen almost into the town centre.
The camp is good. Very good location near the town. You have to pay for toilet paper. And buy a coin for use the microwave. The staff is very helpful. Everything is very clean.
Near the camp a restaurant.
This campsite has changed hands since the previous reviews. It is now owned by a friendly english speaking efficient couple. The two young ladies that we met in reception (also english speaking) were lovely, nothing was to much trouble. The site itself it a typical city site with small well worn pitches just about room for car and caravan though some managed an awning as well. The facilities are modern, clean with hot showers. Easy flat 15 minute walk into the city of Freiburg - Busy well organised but quiet site
Stopped off for 1 night. Arrived at Lunchtime. Reception closed for lunch. Minor inconvenience and you have to respect local working practices but irritating all the same after a journey so plan your arrival time for this site to avoid the wait. Site has plenty of shaded areas and not far from the excellent Freiburg. Remember your loo rolls when you visit the clean and fairly modern facilities as there are none supplied. Staff were very helpful.
We stayed one night here in April '11. The host was excellent. He spoke wonderful english and suggested a very instructive tour of the city. The campsite is within walking distance of all the main sights and is reasonably easy to find. It's hardly a resort style campsite but does a good job of providing a reasonable place to stay close to the city centre.
We have visited this site twice and intend to return next year. It is a beautiful site, almost in the Black Forest. A delightful 30 minute walk along the river into Freiburg. Or you can get the tram. Toilet facilities and cooking/washing-up facilities are excellent. You can get breakfast at reception and there is a small shop. It is the staff who make this campsite what it is. All speak excellent English and they are all extremely friendly and helpful, recommending places to visit and explaining how to get there. Nothing ever seems to be too much trouble There's a feeling of great security and safety. A great idea is the 2 hour rest time in the middle of the day when people can, in the words of the information panel, rest and sleep.
The only downside is that the camping pitches are a little small and, because the site is at the foot of the mountains, rather sloping. However there is always a member of staff available to guide you in and the site provides blocks to level up.
Had seen reviews suggesting staff unfriendly and pitches difficult. Something must have changed, staff are delightful, and whilst yes the pitches are tight, people still have their awnings out Tec. Brilliant base for visiting!
Pitches are a bit small and the ground is like concrete but the location is fantastic. The staff are great. They recommended places to visit and lent us maps.
We went to watch SC Freiburg, swimming in the river and walking.
Frieburg is a lovely city and the Black Forest is beautiful.
