Camp sites don\'t come much better than this. Pitches very spacious and one caravanner commented that the toilet facilities were better than he had at home! Easy 15 minute walk into Lofer for shops and restaurants etc. There is nothing to criticise except perhaps there could be more facilities for children.
The best site we stayed on in 3 weeks touring Europe. Toilets always spotless and facilities compared well with a good hotel. Lovely site by the river surrounded by the Alps which in a thunderstorm was spectacular. It is 25 miles from the Eagles Nest which was a memorable visit. Found a lovely village on the opposite side of the road unfortunately on our way home but would love to return.
We love this place!
Park Grubhof is an attractive campsite completely surrounded by mountains, and the fast flowing River Saalach flows along one edge of the site. There are three categories of pitch, at different prices, but all are large and well maintained. The XX-Large pitch, which we chose was gravelled with a grass area immediately behind it. You are not supposed to put tents on the grass on these pitches, but we did, as did a couple of other campers. The ground was fairly hard, so driving pegs in to the gravel required a hammer. The grassed area, on the other hand, was soft enough to hand drive the pegs in. The pitch was large enough for the van, a tarp, two pop up tents, a Base tent, and still have plenty of room for tables and chairs.
Each pitch had a hookup point and a water tap and were well marked.
Grubhof has two sanitary blocks, both heated and having showers, WCs, and dishwashing rooms. Showers are free and unlimited, and paper and soap is provided in the WCs. All rooms and cubicles have ample space and hooks to hang up clothes and wash bags.
The new sanitary block has a washing machine (€3) and a tumble dryer (€2), but didn\'t get the clothes particularly dry. There is, however, an excellent dry room to hang your clothes in. As well as WCs, this block also has 7 family sized shower rooms with wash basin and toilet. The doors to the family wash rooms require a key card (the same as the gate card provided at reception on arrival) to access.
The older sanitary block has a freezer for ice packs, but is also particularly useful for cooling your beer cans quickly when your fridge is broken!
WiFi is available, and was very good from our pitch. There is a charge, however. €4 for one day, or €9 for 3 days.
Adjoined to the new sanitary block is a games room with a large screen and pool table, and there is also a TV in the lobby area for kids to watch.
The reception is very efficiently run, and they already had our details on file from the last time we stayed, simplifying the checkin process. The staff that dealt with us spoke very good English. We were given a keycard, which worked the gate barrier (only needed for entry, not exit), and also some facilities in the washroom. We were also given a card which gave us free entry to a local gorge, swimming pool and cable car rides, as well as discounts on some other attractions.
There are 3 supermarkets not very far away in the town, but they all close at 18:00 on Saturday and are not open at all on Sunday. In addition, there is a small shop on site, selling a few essentials (such as fresh bread), as well as a bar and restaurant.
This is doubtless one of our favourite sites, with little to say against it, other than it is, of course, a tad expensive. It is an extremely comfortable campsite, even when the rain is tipping down! There are plenty of places to see in the surrounding area. We particularly enjoyed renting out a rowing boat for only €10 an hour on the Königssee, which is, perhaps, 30-40 minutes drive away.
Excellent site, superb situation, and sanitation, but note that the block nearest the office does not have showers, just family bathrooms ( plus all the other usual facilities.)Block 2 has 2 shower rooms which are more like wet rooms, with excellent drainage, the others are large and have individual floor cleaner/raclette, and block 3, whilst ok and clean has somewhat narrow shower units which someone very overweight would have difficulty getting into, and the used water runs from one shower cubicle into another. Good, marked , hard standing pitches with individual water, electricity and waste water, also each has an additional grassed area. Wifi pretty good, available throughout it seems , for 14 euros a week per device. Bus almost outside to Saltzburg cost of 16.40 return, interesting journey takes around 1 hour 15
The town band which plays in Lofer on Friday evening outdoors was well worth attending. 2 Supermarkets within easy cycling or walking distance. We found the quality of Spar in Lofer better than Billa, between St Martin and Lofer. Friendly welcome, informative and English spoken.
Very well organised site, restrictions on which way you can face a van or motorhome and how your car is parked, this all makes for a very tidy arrangement, highly recommended.
Soap, toilet paper and paper towels, all electronically operated, hair dryers available.
Internet point, with computer terminal in main building near telephone, free to use for anyone who does not have or want wifi facility.
Gym/fitness room and comfortable relaxing/TV room with electric sockets, pool table, sofas... Handy for the World Cup this week. One note is that if you get off the bus at the terminus in Salzburg the return bus is not necessarily at the same stop. For us the return stop for that particular service, was out of the limits of the bus station.
A lovely open campsite spread over a large are in a beautiful location by the river surounded by snow capped mountains. The village is within level off road cycling or walking distance. There is a retaurant and bar that supplies good value food and bread is available from the shop but other supplies are limited. The village has a lovely outdoor pool with slide and an unusual natural rapids run on a stream that runs through the pool area. Therd are skme typical bars and cafes in the village and there is a ski lift that runs during the summer to taks visitors half way up the burg in 8 seater gondelas.
One of the best sites we have stayed on. Fantastic location beside a river with numerous cycling and walking opportunities. If you like these then you will probably not use your car much. Can only describe the toilet facilities as first class. There are about 5 different blocks and all are excellent. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable about the area and things to do. Bus goes from outside the campsite to Saltsburg which is worth a visit, as is the thermal baths at Bad Reichenhall. The local villages have regular entertainment of a typically Austrian variety, and are within easy walks across a field or via the river walk. Supermarkets are available within 1 mile. The children on the site seemed to be having a great time in a well equipped play area, and for the adults there is a sauna and fitness room. There are different pitch sizes available, and the price varies accordingly. Pitches are also available for those without children/dogs. We will definitely go back to this site
A fantastic site in a stunning location with the largest pitches i've ever been on, 180 square metres. I received an email from them earlier in the year for a 1000sq metre pitch. Yes 1000 sq metre pich for May and June for around 15 euro per night.
The toilet/shower/laundry facilities were top class and better than some 4star hotels i've visited, spotless no matter what time you visited.
There is a shop/cafe on site as well as a bar /restaurant. You can swim in the river that runs along the site.
There are miles of cycle tracks on the flat as well as more testing tracks.
The nearby villages of St Martin and Lofer are steeped in traddition and reasonably priced for eats/drinks.One of the bars we frequented is actually part of the Local Council Offices (The Rathausstuberl) Two Supermarkets nearby provide everything you would need. We bought very good wine for around 3euro.
All in all a fantastic site that others should aspire to.
I will book again next year for a longer stay!
A first class campsite in an excellent location. The pitches are extremely spacious and most are serviced. Toilet facilities are really excellent. The on site restaurant offers good food and excellent value for money. The nearby villages of Hofer and St Martin are only a short walk away. We would rate this as one of the very best sites we have used.
One of the best campsites we have ever used. Sanitary facilities are superb and beautifully maintained. Pitches are very large and serviced for fresh and grey water. Restaurant has a good menu and provides excellent value for money. Staff extremely helpful.Beautiful surroundings, very peaceful.
Excellent campsite with large serviced pitches in superb location, surrounded by high mountains. There is a good restaurant on site. You can walk into Lofer where you have a choice of supermarkets. Plenty of places to visit within a 25 mile radius. If you only do one trip then it must be the High Alpine Drive - The Grossglocknerstrasse, absolutely amazing.
